Medvedev says Russia suggests upgrade measures to WTO
BRUSSELS, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- Russia has proposed some improvement ideas to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and hopes they will be accepted, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday.
“Russia supports the WTO whose role in the global trade is systemically important. However, we see that the organization needs enhancement and refurbishment. Controversies between the developed states, the emerging states seem unsurmountable, but they may be eliminated,” he said.
“(Russia) has presented its improvement proposals in association with India, the European Union. I hope that we will come to an agreement.”
Medvedev is sure that cooperation in international trade alliances grows, but is should be based on the WTO, not individual rules.
He also pointed out that in the current environment the countries tend to weaken each other’s positions in international trade which is a threatening trend.
“Instead of cooperation we weaken our relations. A decade ago we used to be wiser and were ready to jointly resist the negative consequences of the global crisis.”
